Srinagar, Aug 7: High Court directed the Public Health Engineering Department to ensure proper supply of water for irrigation and domestic purpose to villagers of Aishmuqam in distric Anantnag.
Justice Rajnesh Oswal while issuing notice to Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Chief Engineer PHE Department Kashmir, Assistant Commissioner Development Anantnag, Executive Engineer Bijbehara, Superintending Engineer PHE Anantnag and other officials of PHE Department sought their reply to the grievances projected by the villagers with regard to shortage of water supply for irrigating the fields and for domestic use.
Court as interim relief for the villagers directed DC Anantnag and officials of PHE to ensure proper supply of water for irrigation and domestic purpose to villagers of Aishmuqam.
The villagers submitted before the court that the source of water for drinking and irrigating their fields is being diverted by the officials of PHE Department on the influence of other village resulting into depriving the villagers from the source of water for drinking as well as irrigation purposes.
Court has been apprised that the inaction of officials of PHE Department for ulterior motives and extraneous considerations are bent upon to deprive the villagers from the said water source by diversion.
The submitted before the court that the action on part of Government must be fair, transparent and legitimate and should be without any favour or aversion.
Petitioner-villagers pray that PHE authorities be prohibited from diversion of water from Nallah Yashnad to village Logripora and such kind of action on part of respondent department be declared as illegal and unconstitutional.
