JAMMU, Aug 22: J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, under the Presidentship of Senior Advocate Vikram Sharma has strongly urged the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to come alive to the genuine grievances of the public and the commuters on the Jammu- Kathua segment of National Highway on account of levy of toll at Sarore Toll Plaza despite the fact that the section of highway has been damaged in recent floods and is unfit for use.
Addressing press conference, Vikram Sharma stressed that NHAI should suspend the collection of toll-at Sarore Toll Plaza keeping in view poor condition of the highway. “High Court Bar has always stood for the genuine causes of Jammu and has led the causes to desired success”, he added.

He expressed hope that the NHAI and Ministry of Road and Transport would address genuine grievances of the public at large and demand would be positively responded at the earliest. At the same time, the President of Bar expressed concerns with regard to faulty / inflated bills being generated by the smart electric meters.
He said that consumers of the electricity across Jammu division have been paying the electricity dues irrespective of the nomenclature of the meters, however, the department and JPDCL must ensure that the meters reflect the outstanding proportionate to the units consumed by a particular consumer.
He also urged the administration to broaden the base exemption for property tax and simplify the calculation method for an ordinary man to understand it conveniently.
