JAMMU, Nov 5: Police today arrested a hawala operator and an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of the militants in Nagrota area on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. He has been identified as Ghulam Ahmad Mir alias Jia Mir, a resident of Thanna Mandi in Rajouri district.
Police said Jia Mir was being searched after the arrest of his nephew Zahid Latief Wani, a police constable on May 19 this year along with a hawala consignment of Rs 5 lakh.
Police said interrogation of Wani had revealed that he was shifting hawala consignment from Srinagar to Rajouri at the behest of Jia Mir.
According to police, Mir was not keeping well and immediately after his arrest, he was shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital for treatment.
Jia Mir was kingpin of hawala racketeers, police said, adding he would be quizzed only after he was discharged from the GMC.
Police parties headed by SDPO Nagrota Khalik Choudhary made the arrest.
