UDHAMPUR, Aug 6: Peeved over the dilapidated roads in district Udhampur causing frequent accidents resulting in loss of precious lives, many youth, women and civil society members led by Harsh Dev Singh, senior AAP leader today staged a protest demonstration outside DC office here.
The protestors blocked the road in-front of DC office and raised slogans against construction agencies—PWD, PMGSY and NHAI for sub-standard work on several roads.
After this the protesters submitted a memorandum to DC Udhampur seeking probe into irregularities and frauds in construction of several poor quality roads in the district.
The protesters demanded immediate compensation for the victims of accident which took place today morning on Barmeen-Ghordi road and strict penal action against delinquent executing agencies.
Addressing the protesters, Harsh Dev claimed construction mafia for poor quality works executed in collusion with corrupt functionaries of Government.
He said that he made repeated requests and representations to district officers and the highest authorities of PWD, PMGSY and NHAI regarding condition of several roads and sub-standard work by construction agencies but nothing fruitful emerged.
Counting bad roads, the AAP leader said that Barmeen–Ghordi road is full of huge pot-holes and pits, PMGSY roads including Gujad–Chirdi road, Kud–Mada road, T/Morh to Ther road, Charat–Pakhlai road etc have been abandoned half done.
He condemned NHAI for non-completion of 25 km stretch of Udhampur–Chenani road for the last seven years.
