Sir,
This has a reference to Daily Excelsior “Sunday Magazine” article “Hardwar in Duggar Land” written by Ayodhya Nath Kerni and published on Ist of November – 2015.
In this connection I would like to appreciate the efforts of Mr Kerni to highlight various Heritage sites of Chenani which remained unknown and neglected till day.
At the same time I differ with the learned author when he writes “King of Bhuti Principality launched an attack from Chorgala Fort on Chenani during the rule of Dayal Chand. He killed thirty soldiers deployed in Defence of Chenani fort and Palace weas set on fire”. In fact as per Historical point of view as written by Prof. S D S Charak in his book “History and culture of Himalayan States” the event is written as “Taking advantage of the family strife the Raja of Bhuti State laid sieze of Chorgalla Fort, on the Ladha Dhar. The Fort had a garrison of only thirty Rajput and relief could not be sent. Still they held out as long as was possible, but had at last to face death or surrender, and they decided to fight to the last. They threw open the gates and sallied out in great fury and slew a number of enemy, and the rest was taken by surprise fled away. This gave rise to the popular saying “One Himtal is worth Seven Bhatials”. Many research scholars of Jammu University have conducted research on the topic with same findings. As the article on Daily Excelsior carries weight so the events related to History should be presented in its right direction.
Yours etc….
