JAMMU, Apr 16: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura today distributed cheques amounting to Rs 25 lakh among 60 Cocoon producers as assistance for construction of rearing houses at Dak Bungalow Sunderbani.
Later, accompanied by MLC Surinder Choudhary, MLA Ravinder Raina, Director Sericulture, Dr Malik Farooq, Additional Director Sericulture, Jammu M L Chadgal and other officers of Sericulture and Agriculture Departments, the Minister visited various areas in Sunderbani including village Thanda-Pani and interacted with the Cocoon rearers.
The Minister said that Government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is committed to boost the sericulture sector in the State. He said in this regard number of Centrally Sponsored Schemes including Catalytic Development Programme (CDP) have been launched in the State. He said sericulture and silk industry have huge economic employment potential.
Hanjura advised the silkworm rearers to adopt Sericulture to increase their income. He also appealed them to take benefits of all schemes available with the Sericulture Development Department to enhance cocoon production and cocoon quality. He said special focus will be given on promotion and development of Sericulture and Silk Industry in the State. He further said alongwith pre-cocoon, post-cocoon sector will also be developed for value addition and for employment generation.
Several deputations met the Minister and apprised him about their individual and collective problems. These included establishment of silk village in Sunderbani area, Hot Air Dyer Units, organizing awareness camps and compensation for damaged crops and vegetables.
The Minister gave patient hearing and assured the people that their genuine demands would be looked into.
