Kissan Maha Panchayat holds farmers’ dharna

REASI, Apr 16: Kissan Maha Panchayat Majalta held a farmers’ dharna at Majalta in support of their demands regarding assessment and compensation for their crops and houses damaged due to rains and floods.
Led by social worker S S Sumbria, the rally was attended by the farmers of about 20 Panchayats who sought intervention of the administration in early redressal of their issues.
The farmers said that they have been rendered unable to even foster their own families as their crops, livestock and houses have suffered huge damages. They appealed the administration to initiate action on their demands and announced to launch a peaceful hunger strike from 27th of April in support of their issues.
The demands and issues of the farmers included provision of Insurance for crops, cocoon and livestock, providing of passbooks to farmers with all details about their land including khasra number and ownership detail, assessment of damaged paddy crops due to last year’s dry spell, wheat and other crops due to this year’s heavy rains and hailstorm besides collapsed houses and lost livestock and compensation accordingly, involvement of farmers in formulation of programmes meant for their socio-economic emancipation, establishment of Mandi for sale of cocoon in between Manwal and Ramkot, enhancement of KCC loan from 50 to 100 percent, ensuring optimum benefit of Government schemes meant for farmers.
