Sir,
This has reference to the editoria’ Leh’s Hall of Fame’ (DE, Sep26, 2016). It is indeed a matter of pride that the ‘Hall of Fame’at Leh has topped the list of five Indian Museums which figured in the list of best 25 museums of Asia. The museum, established way back in 1986 by the Indian Army to showcase the valour, sacrifice and achievements of the Indian Army in various operations in Ladakh, has been voted as a ‘Must Visit’place by the travellers in the survey conducted by ‘Trip Advisor’, which ranked the museums as per the views expressed by the travellers. The fact that the museum also displays the items pertaining to the rich and glorious culture and heritage of the Ladakh region and the information related to the festivals, monasteries, history of Ladakh etc.is available in this museum, makes it all the more a place worth visiting. This beautiful museum, which has an annual footfall of over 1,50,000 domestic and foreign visitors needs to be further promoted as a major centre of attraction.Already, the Hall of Fame has been upgraded and expanded to include the War Memorial, War Cemetry, Adventure Park etc.to attract more visitors and tourists. This beautiful monument definitely helps in instilling a patriotic feeling in the civilians visiting it and also helps in forging a strong bond between the citizens and the Indian Army which, besides safeguarding our country from the foreign aggression,is always ready to help the civilians in times of peace.
The maintenance of the said museum and showcasing items related to the rich culture of Ladakh and providing the opportunity to the visitors and tourists in such a manner that it has figured among the top twenty five museums in Asia is yet another feather in the cap of the Indian Army. There is surely a need to establish more such museums in Srinagar, Udhampur and Poonch.
Yours etc….
Ashok Sharma,
Udhampur.
