Half-day strike of medical employees hampers health services across Jammu

JAMMU, Oct 17: Health services were affected today in various Government hospitals across Jammu province due to strike observed by Health employees in first-half of the day under the banner of Jammu Kashmir Medical Employees Federation.
Today was the first day of three-day strike announced by the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Employees Federation, Jammu province in favour of Jammu Kashmir Female Multi Purpose Health Workers, who have been on strike for last 52 days demanding their pending salaries and permanent solution of salary issue.
The strike was observed for first three working hours in all health institutions viz, Sub Centers, Sub District Hospitals and District Hospitals in Jammu Province. The main protest was held at Madam Shahsi Bala Memorial Park in DHS Complex Jammu.
Meanwhile the routine work at all health institutions across Jammu province including Directorate of Health Services and all the adjoining offices of Directorate Complex was suffered due to the strike. Even the routine works like Operation, OPD, X-ray, ECG and OPD were hampered. However, emergency was running smoothly in all the health institutions.
OPD Slips were not been issued to even a single patient all over the Division in Health Institutions, which will affect a lot to the Government Exchequer. Further, routine work in the Health institutions in Jammu city i.e. Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Government Hospital Sarwal and Rajiv Gandhi Hospital Gangyal suffered a lot due to the employees’ strike.
Addressing the protesting FMPHWs at Madam Shashi Bala Memorial Park, Sushil Sudan, president, JKMEF said that if the authorities do not wake up from the slumber and fulfill their demands including permanent solution of salary head 2211, delinking the CSS salary from the funding sources (Corpus-delinking), fixation of job functions of FMPHWs at par with other working categories of Health Sector, up gradation of the post of FMPHW on the analogy of Pharmacist, Lab Tech X-Ray Tech, Dental Tech and Ophth Tech, even after the three-strike programme, they will resort to indefinite strike.
All the leaders of the association appealed the Governor SP Malik to intervene into the matter solved their genuine demands before October 24.
Meanwhile Divisional Commissioner Jammu called the leaders of the JKMEF and FMPHWA and listened to their demands. The Divisional Commissioner also talked to both the Directors of Health Department i.e. Director Health Services Jammu and Director Family Welfare Jammu and directed them to resolve the issue shortly.
