SRINAGAR, Jan 30: Bollywood upcoming film Haider shoot was stopped today at Sun Temple in Anantnag following protests by spectators who had turned in hundreds to watch the film shoot.
As the film crew reached historical Sun Temple in Kehribal area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district for shooting, huge crowd gathered near the spot.
However, trouble erupted soon when police did not allow the spectators to enter the park where the shooting was to begin.
“As the police and CRPF men prevented the people to enter the park to watch the shooting, they began hooting at the crew and the actors,” said Sajad Ahmad, an eyewitness.
Fearing trouble, police and para-military forces chased the spectators which triggered clashes. “People while running away shouted slogans, threw stones and snowballs towards the film crew. Police charged batons. But as the situation pacified, the shooting was resumed,” he said.
Earlier the film was hit by the protests at Kashmir University after which the director had to address a press conference to clarify about his position about the film.
The Vishal Bharadwaj-directed film has been facing protests since it began shooting in the Valley.
Earlier, students in Kashmir University protested against the director for hoisting an India National Flag in the campus for a fidayeen attack scene.
On Tuesday, a youth attacked the crew with a fire-pot (Kangri) in Zaina Kadal in sensitive old city area.
‘Haider’ is a Hindi adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragic drama ‘Hamlet’, which stars Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor as lead roles, with Tabu and Irfan Khan as supporting actors.
