SRINAGAR: With President’s rule set to be imposed in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday following the expiry of Governor’s rule today, National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah once again pitched for Assembly elections in the state.
The Governor and the President’s rule must come to an end,? Mr Abdullah, the former Chief Minister of the state, told reporters at his Gupkar residence after two senior PDP leaders — Bukhari and Peer Mohammad Hussain — joined NC.
I think the Governor and the President’s Rule must come to an end. There should be elections and people must choose their representatives who can work, Mr Abdullah said.
On the grand alliance for 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the NC president said the alliance was working and the states will hold a key in alliance formations in the elections.
As far as alliances are concerned, they will be mostly in the states. And those states will produce results for Parliament (election)? that will make the differences. Some alliances will be strong, some will be mixed, but the states will be the most important factor, he added.
About PDP president Mehbooba Mufti pitching for a grand regional alliance, Mr Abdullah said that he has not heard anything about it.
If anyone wants to come, they can come and put forth suggestions, we have a committee that will review it, he said. (AGENCIES)
