JAMMU, Feb 10: The 640th Jayanti of Guru Ravi Dass Ji was celebrated with full religious fervor and gaiety all over Jammu region today.
The main function was held at Gurudwara Krishna Nagar here and a large number of devotees including men, women and children thronged the Gurudwara to participate in the celebrations.
The religious scholars and Gurus threw light on the life and teachings of Guru Ravi Dass Ji whose message was all human beings are children of one God and equal before him.
Describing Guru Ravi Dass a great saint, scholar, philosopher and a social reformer the speakers said that he worked for his entire life towards the betterment of society. The best tribute to this great saint will be that we should follow his foot steps and work for betterment of mankind as a whole by creating a casteless society.
Speaking on the occasion, Piran Ditta, president of All J&K Guru Ravi Dass Sabha which organized the function said that Guru Ji was a great saint of Bhakti Movement and he revolutionized the entire society. He was against the untouchability and launched a crusade against the same. For him all human beings were the children of one God and equal before him, he added.
He also appealed for unity among the people to fight the coming challenges facing the community. He condemned the lathicharge on SC/ST employees on January 28.
The function was coordinated by M L Banalia, general secretary of the Sabha.
Mulkh Raj Basson was the chief guest on the occasion.
Bhajan Kirtan and Satsang were also held. After the function the devotees were served prashad.
The outstanding school going children were also honoured by the Sabha besides the candidates of the community who cleared the IAS recently.
The Guru Ravi Dass Jayanti was also celebrated by BJP Mandal Talab Tillo today with great enthusiasm.
BJP State president, Sat Sharma (CA), State secretary of the party Sanjay Baru, district president Jammu West, Ayodhya Gupta and Mandal president, Talab Tillo, Jeet Angral attended the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Sat Sharma said Guru Ravi Dass was great saint, Bhakti poet, scholar, Philosopher and social reformer. He was totally devoted to Lord and this is reflected in his Bhakti poetry.
Ayodhya Gupta appealed people to follow the teachings of Guru Ravi Dass and work for peace and brotherhood in the society.
The birthday of Guru Ravi Dass was also celebrated at Greater Jammu Colony wherein large number of devotees of the area participated and paid obeisance to this great saint.
The residents of area organized prayer Sabha on the occasion. In his address K C Kundan retired AGM RBI said that the teachings of Gurus like, Ravidas, Kabir Dass and others are quite relevant in today’s world.
The 640 Jayanti of Guru Ravi Dass was also celebrated in district Samba with great enthusiasm by the devotees. A grand function was organized at Shri Guru Ravi Dass Ji Temple Chhanni Manahasan Swankha More in Vijaypur tehsil in which a large number of devotees participated and paid obeisance to the great Guru.
Another function in connection with celebration of Guru Ravi Dass Jayanti was held at Guru Ravi Dass temple at Samba. On the occasion MLA Samba Dr D K Manyal threw light on the teachings of Guru Ravi Dass.
Guru Ravi Dass Jayanti was also celebrated at Lamberi in Rajouri district and addressing the gathering the Minister of Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Abdul Gani Kohli said that the teachings of Guru Ravi Dass are complete set of guide for leading a peaceful and harmonious life. He called upon the people to adopt the teachings of great spiritual saint, maintaining that Guru’s teachings are most relevant in today’s life.
He said Guru Ravi Dass throughout his life worked for the welfare of poor and weaker sections of the society.
At R S Pura a function in connection of celebration of Guru Ravi Dass Jayanti a function was held in the town in which MLA Dr Gagan Bhagat was the chief guest who threw light on the teachings of this great Guru. He on the occasion announced Rs five lakh for construction of community Hall from his CDF.
The Jayanti of Guru Ravi Dass was also celebrated at Rajouri, Reasi, Guru Ravi Dass Temple Parli Ward Kathua and Guru Ravi Dass temple Chowk Udhampur in which a large number of devotees participated.
