JAMMU, Feb 23: Minister of State for Animal and Sheep Husbandry, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Nazir Ahmad Gurezi today paid a surprise visit to 5 Veterinary Assistant Surgeon (VAS) Centres including Kangral, at Tehsil Akhnoor besides Sheep Development Offices Sungal and Sohal and took stock of the facilities available in these Centres.
The Minister also visited Government Veterinary Hospital Akhnoor and took serious note of bad condition of the store. He directed for attachment of the Storekeeper of the hospital.
The Director Sheep Husbandry Jammu and Director Animal Husbandry Jammu accompanied the Minister during his visit.
The Minister was apprised that 5 Veterinary Assistant Surgeon (VAS) Centres had administered 19358 dosing, 2872 artificial inseminations, 8250 vaccinations to Cattle and Sheep during the current year so far. He was also informed that 18541 sheep and cattle were treated while 616 births recorded.
During his tour several deputations met the Minister and apprised him about their individual and collective problems including early construction of Veterinary Hospital at Regional Cattle Development Centre Khour. The Minister gave them patient hearing and assured them that the construction of the hospital would be started soon.
Interacting with the people on the occasion, the Minister said that the Government under the leadership of Omar Abdullah has taken revolutionary measures for the development and welfare of the farming community of the State. He said the focused attention is being given to sheep husbandry sector as it was the back bone of the rural economy of the State.
The Minister also visited Flood Control Division Akhnoor and took stock of the facilities available in the office.
