JAMMU, Dec 14: Security forces have neutralised one terrorist and recovered one AK-47 rifle and four magazines in an ensuing gunfight in bordering Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir here on Tuesday.

Jammu based defence spokesman Lt Col Devender Anand said that in a successful joint operation, troopers of the Indian Army and J&K Police eliminated one terrorist in Dori Dhok area of Behramgala, district Poonch.

“The operation was launched after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the presence of heavily armed terrorists in the area,” said the spokesman.

He said that during the encounter in the early hours on Tuesday, the terrorist attempted to escape while opening fire at the security personnel, however he was neutralised in the ensuing fire fight.

One AK-47 Rifle, four magazines and pouches have been recovered from the slain terrorist, said the spokesman.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbag Singh on December 10 while taking a review about the security measures put in place along the Line of Control against the infiltration attempts by the Pakistan agencies to push in terrorists and narcotics, had said that close synergy between security forces thwarting Pakistan sponsored infiltration attempts is being made in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch of the Union Territory.

Twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch of Jammu have been witnessing terrorist infiltration bids sponsored by the Pakistani authorities, said Singh while chairing a security review meeting with officers during his visit to Poonch district.

He said, Due to synergy and close liaison between the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and other security forces many of such acts have been successfully thwarted on the border and in the hinterland. (AGENCIES)
