POONCH, Sept 5: A noted Gujjar leader from Poonch district, Shamsher Hakla Poonchi has said that majority of the Gujjars and Bakerwals in the J&K State support continuation of Article 35A.
In a press statement here, Hakla said that in the J&K State, except some parts of Ladakh region, Gujjars- Bakerwals can be found in all the districts of J&K. He claimed that their number would be more than twenty lakhs in the State.
Hakla said the problems and needs of Gujjars- Bakerwals are quite different from other communities of J&K State and their language and culture is also different than those of other communities. This community is different and as such they have a distinctive identity.
He claimed that majority of these people are in favour of Article 35-A and have demanded that it should remain and continue as it was. He demanded that this Article should not be revoked.
