JAMMU, Sept 23: Tribal Gujjars and Bakerwals in Jammu and Kashmir today demanded rights as are granted to other ST communities in India.
Noted Gujjar scholar, Dr. Javaid Rahi in a function organised by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation said that tribes of J&K are very less empowered as compared to those of other states.
He further said that special rights like Political Reservation under Article 334, Forest Rights Act 2006, SC/ST prevention of Atrocities Act 1989, Rehabilitation Act 2013 and Conservation Act 1980 to empower tribal communities still await extension to J&K.
Those who spoke on the occasion included Qammar Choudhary, Ishtiaq, Shabnum Ahmed, Ali Hussain Khatana, Bashir Bajad, Haneef Lodha and others.
