Gujjar-Bakerwal Conference demands reservation

JAMMU, Nov 12: The Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar Bakerwal Conference has strongly demanded political reservation for the community.
In a meeting of the organization held at Akhnoor today, the members Haji Mohd Yaqoob, Anwar Choudhary, Dr Gafoor Ahmed and others expressed serious concern over the discriminatory attitude of the State Government towards this community. The members stressed that the Government should provide  reservation to this ST community.
They pointed out that JKGBC has identified at least 16 blocks in Srinagar division where the population of Gujjars and even number of Panchs and Sarpanchs is more than 25 % as has been unwritten policy of the State Government for reserving the seats. Similarly, twenty blocks have been identified in Jammu province.
The ST community leaders also alleged harassment to the community members in and around Jammu by some land grabbers. They said the JKGBC will launch State wide campaign shortly and project issues of the members of this community. Others present in the meeting included Misri Khan, Saif Ali Kasana, Abdul Latif and Shah Mohd.
