Guj Handloom Corp to launch e-comm portal; inks MoU with eBay

HYDERABAD, Feb 4:  Gujarat State Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation (GSHHDC) will soon launch its own e-commerce portal under ‘Garvi-Gurjari’ brand to reach out to a bigger customer base and boost sales in overseas markets.
GSHHDC, a Gujarat government undertaking which owns ‘Garvi-Gurjari’ stores across the country, has also signed an MoU with global e-commerce giant eBay and plans to tie-up with domestic e-commerce majors as Flipkart and Snapdeal, a senior GSHHDC official said.
“Under the brand ‘Garvi-Gurjari’, we are going to create our own website so that products can be sold through online platform. We are expecting to launch it by end of April,” GSHHDC Head (Marketing and IT), B Venkateswarlu, told PTI here.
The objective to expand sales base (from retail shop sales) to online market is to increase the market share of handloom and handicraft products of Gujarat, he said, adding, “online market is increasing by 60 per cent… Looking at the potentiality of this market we are going to launch our own website.”
In the first phase, sale of products will start within next fortnight through eBay, while in the next phase, there will be a tie-up with online shopping websites such as Snapdeal and Flipkart, Venkateswarlu said.
“As of now, sales are generated from offline market through our showrooms and exhibitions across India. We have 23 showrooms and within next three years, we plan to expand them to 300,” he added. (AGENCIES)
