Guarding the nation

Sheikh Mudasir Amin Sonali Waghade, a constable in the Border Security Forces is deployed at the International Border with Pakistan at Jammu. It is for the first time in Jammu that women have been deployed at the international border. She is feeling exalted, empowered being at the International Border maintaining a roundthe-clock vigil despite many challenges. Ready to perform every duty: The women posted at the International Border are ready to perform every duty. From Sentry to Observation Post Duty, they are foot patrolling and vehicle patrolling the border from dusk to dawn. Sapna Khadse, one of the BSF women constables deployed at the border in Jammu says, “She is ready to sacrifice her life for the country. While at the frontier post, she wants to ensure that everyone back at home must feel safe when they stand firm at the border and ready to resist the enemy. The winter is a difficult phase at the International Border. It comes with many challenges for our security forces posted at the border. But, these challenges don’t make women BSF constables weak in any sense. Pallavi M Soyam, another woman BSF constable is ready to face all these challenges. “The fog in winter at the border may increase the infiltration activities but the country must not feel unsafe but relax when we are ready to face the enemy at the border and don’t allow them to come even an inch to this side”, Pallavi says. Besides other duties, the BSF women constables also participate in the retreat ceremony at the octroi border outpost along the international Border in RS Pura sector in Jammu. “This structured parade which is a display of finest skills makes us more enthused and is a reflection of the legacy and valour of Border Security Forces”, says Sonali Waghade. Jump in the number of women employed in Central Armed Police Force since 2014: According to the Bureau of Police Research & Development figure, number of women police personnel has risen to over 2.5 lakh against 1.05 lakh in 2014. The same was quoted by Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi in his Mann Ki Baat in October this year. The Prime Minister has expressed hope that women will lead the ‘New Age Policing’ in future. This new age policing will definitely bring confidence among women especially when they are trained for specialised warfare like becoming part of CoBRA battalion of CRPF or posted at international border, LAC or LOC. The deployment of women at the International Border in Jammu in a greater sense would have a positive impact on the society and they will definitely become the role models for the upcoming generations.
