JAMMU, Mar 3: An employee of General Reserve Engineers Force (GREF) was killed due to shooting stones in Ramsu area last night while Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which was restored in the morning was again blocked, due to landslides at three places near Panthyal in Ramban area late this evening.
Reports said that GREF employee Surinder Pal, resident of Pathankote went missing last night when shooting stones from the hill side hit the highway near Panthyal. His dead body was recovered from the Nallah this morning. The body was removed by police and shifted to Ramban hospital.
Meanwhile, the Jammu –Srinagar National Highway which was blocked last evening, was restored this morning at around 10 am. Over 2000 stranded vehicles including 400 oil/ fuel tankers and 1500 LMVs were cleared for Kashmir. However, the stranded loaded trucks in Jakheni area of Udhampur, Dhar Road and Nagrota Bypass were not allowed to move ahead.
IG Traffic, Alok Kumar said that during the day, traffic disruption occurred several times at Maroog, Panthyal and Mom Passi but the vehicles kept on moving towards Kashmir with clearance of debris by machines.
He said fresh landslides at three places near Panthyal again blocked the highway at around 8.30 pm. About 300 vehicles said to have been stranded between Panthyal and Ramsu area.
He said there was light rain during the day in the area and due to darkness, the restoration work was not possible. There was danger of shooting stones from the mountain especially during night.
