JAMMU, Dec 1: Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga today chaired the 152nd meeting of Board of Directors of Jammu and Kashmir Industries (JKI) Ltd.
Minister of State for Industries & Commerce (Vice-Chairman, JKI) Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi, Commissioner/Secretary Industries & Commerce Department Shailendra Kumar, Managing Director JKI, Javid Iqbal, Board members and representatives of Planning and Finance Departments were present in the meeting.
The Minister for I&C said that JKI is the most prestigious Public Sector Enterprise of the State which has a huge asset base in the form of built-up infrastructure, machinery and land property.
He further stated that the Government is committed to tap all possible avenues to create employment opportunities for State youth and highlighted the role of JKI in achieving this objective. “JKI being one of the major employment-provider in the State needs to take all such measures that would ensure sustenance of current employment and also create new opportunities for local people directly or indirectly,” the Minister said.
The Minister stressed upon the officers to achieve this objective by undertaking comprehensive modernization/up-gradation schemes in all JKI units.
He reviewed the overall working of the Corporation and said that the Government has taken certain corrective steps for up-gradation of Silk Weaving Factory Rajbagh and Bemina Woolen Mills under Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project (JTFRP) funded by World Bank.
The Minister informed the meeting that Joinery Mills Bari Brahmana Jammu and Shoddy Spinning Plant are being revived to make these units sustainable and viable.
The BODs was also of the view that the implementation of the projects in time bound manner would put JKI back on track and make it self-sustaining.
MD, JKI, Javid Iqbal, gave a resume of the achievements of the Corporation, besides projecting certain issues for better functioning of the organization.
