JAMMU, May 31: Expressing serious concern over the non-release of pending salary of thousands of teachers of Jammu and Kashmir working under various State and Centrally sponsored schemes, Teachers Guild (TG) decided that all Government teachers shall wear black badges to show their resentment till their salaries are released.
In a meeting of the Guild held at its zonal headquarter Chowki Choura under the chairmanship of its State president, NA Qurashi, the participants appealed the entire teaching community to extend black badges campaign all over the State to show their dismay.
While speaking on the occasion, Kasturi Lal Sharma, Zonal president, Teachers Guild said that the teachers are hand to mouth and their families are starving for basic amenities due to non-payment of salaries. He warned the authorities for their anti-teacher policies and demanded early release of salaries.
Qurashi in his presidential address said that it is condemnable state of affairs that the thousands of teachers, Masters, Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers working under SSA, RMSA and New Pension Scheme are without salaries for the last many months facing extreme and endless hardship in their personal, economical and social lives.
Terming this an open violation of constitution, which gave the right to life and personal liberty to everyone, he said that it is worthlessness of present Government that its employees, particularly teaching community are victim of indigence and poverty. He appealed the Education Minister Naeem Akhtar, Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu and Minister of State Education Priya Sethi to look into the matter seriously and address the all grievances of teaching professionals particularly pending salaries on priority basis.
On the appeal of Qurashi, all teachers, Masters and ReT teachers, who were present in the meeting, wore black badges to register their peaceful protest.
