Govt sub-committee to examine rehabilitation of mule owners

JAMMU, Aug 16: For consultation process with the stakeholders in regard to rehabilitation of mule owners operating on the track between Katra and the Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, the State Government has constituted a Sub-Committee.
Headed by B B Vyas, Advisor to the Governor, and comprising other two Advisors, Vijay Kumar as well as Khurshid A Ganai, besides Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam as the Members, the Sub-Committee will submit its report within a period of one month.
Financial Commissioner, Housing & Urban Development department, shall provide Secretariat assistance to the Sub-Committee, which shall examine expectation, requests and livelihood concerns of mule/pony operators per se need to be taken into account while finalizing any rehabilitation scheme.
The Sub-committee shall also examine the implication of decisions taken on other pilgrim/tourist destinations across the country and its impact on other non-Government stakeholders, particularly various cross sections of the society, especially in view of the unique circumstances obtaining in the State, besides ensuring that the rehabilitation scheme is in line with the concerns of such stakeholders.
