JAMMU, Oct 22: The Geology and Mining Department has stopped the operation of the extraction of minor mineral (sand/stones/gravel) in district Reasi.
Official sources said that action was taken by the District Mineral Officer Reasi on the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner, after the complaints of illegal mining in the area and also non-payment of an amount of Rs 71.65 lakh by the higher bidder, Chaman Lal, resident of Sector 5, Chhanni Himmat Jammu.
The sources pointed out that despite several notices the bidder was not responding and clearing outstanding amount pending against him. The DMO also found discrepancies in the challan books issued to the contractor. Pending clearance of payments, the extraction of minor mineral operation has been stopped in the entire district.
