Govt starts recruitment process for appointment of Director SKIMS

SRINAGAR, Sept 7: After according 6-month extension in the service of Dr A.G. Ahangar as Director, SKIMS Soura, the Government has finally kick-started the recruitment process for the appointment of the new Director, SKIMS for which the applications have been invited.
In this regard, the Government has already issued a notification, while a detailed one shall soon be available on the official website of the SKIMS. The applications, in this regard, have been sought from the ‘Indian Nationals’ for the position of Director SKIMS.
As per details, the process of submitting the applications will commence from September 8 while the last date for the submission of the online applications has been set for October 7, 2021.
The age bar for the post of Director SKIMS has been set as 62 years with the relevant experience in this regard, making Dean Medical Faculty SKIMS, Dr Omar Javaid Shah and few others to be one of the top contenders for the position at the premier healthcare institution of J&K.
As per insiders, apart from Dr Omar Javaid Shah, there are many contenders for the top position at SKIMS. The top contenders include Dr Mohammad Salim Wani from the Department of Urology, Dr Altaf Ramzan from the Department of Neurosurgery and Dr Adil Hafiz Wani from the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Microsurgery.
It is to be mentioned here that Dr Ahangar took over as Director SKIMS in July 2016 after the term of Dr Showkat Zargar ended. He was later removed in January 2018 and Dr Omar Javaid Shah was given the job of Director SKIMS. Following that, after court directions, Dr Ahangar again took over as Director SKIMS in September 2019.
After that, as his term was supposed to end in June this year, Dr Ahangar was given an extension in his service till December and was directed not to look into the matters concerning the procurements as well as the process of recruitment at the hospital, while as the Additional Director, SKIMS was handed-over almost all the tasks after the Government reconstituted 4 top committees which included Purchase Sub-Committee, Selection/Promotion Committees and the Apical Selection Committee.
While there were reports that Dr Ahangar might get an extension in his service as Director, over a dozen of Heads of the Departments had written to the Government seeking immediate advertisement of the post of the Director, however, the Government went ahead with the extension.
During his tenure, Dr Ahangar remained in the news of various reasons concerning the functioning of the SKIMS with regard to issues ranging from purchasing, particularly during the COVID pandemic, as well as recruitment from which he was kept away during his extension period as Director SKIMS.
