SRINAGAR, Oct 21: State Government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Council for Leather Exports (CLE) to setup a Common Facility Centre (CFC) at Industrial Growth Centre (IGC) Lassipora which will catalyze the development of leather industry in Jammu and Kashmir.
The MoU was signed by M Rafeeque Ahmad, Chairman CLE and Shailendra Kumar, Commissioner/Secretary Industries & Commerce.
In terms of the MoU, CLE will assist the State Government in the finalization of the DPR for proposed CFC besides providing requisite technical support and guidance. This will include setting up of at least two training institutes with the help of CLE to impart training to the youth in leather industry.
CLE has also committed to mobilize requisite investment in CFC by setting up manufacturing units of tanneries and product units including footwear, leather goods and saddlery etc.
The CLE will also help the local entrepreneurs to brand and market their finished leather products in the national and international markets.
Minister for Finance, Dr Haseeb Drabu, Chief Secretary, B R Sharma, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, B B Vyas, Secretary to Chief Minister, M H Malik, Vice-Chairman CLE, Subash Kapoor, Chairman South, CLE, P R Aqeel and Regional Chairman North CLE, Puran Dawar, were present on the occasion.
