SRINAGAR, Mar 13: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has urged  upon the administration to gear up for addressing the miseries of people including and snow storm victims.
It has also appealed to Election Commission of India to intervene and make the administration accountable and effective for crisis management.
PDP leaders Nizam-ud-Din Bhat MLA, Ab Razaq Zawoora MLA, Mohammad Khalil Bandh MLA, Syed Bashir Ahmad, MLA, Mansoor Hussain MLA and Gh Nabi Lone Hanjura in a joint statement said that while the Model Code of Conduct is in operation, the Government machinery is using it as a tool to neglect the constituencies represented by the PDP. They said it derives maximum benefits out of the situation for political partisanship and uses the MCC as an axe against the government opponents.
Worst of this bias is witnessed in Shopian, Kulgam, Noorabad, Bandipora, Chrar-i-sharief and other parts of the Valley which undergo tremendous crisis arising out of damages to power transmission lines and road connectivity. In most of the areas there is virtual darkness besides pathetic condition due to lack of transport, medical care, drinking water and ration. The areas where deaths have taken place and families have been rendered homeless, the relief measures are either absent or negligible.
The PDP leaders demanded immediate rehabilitation of snow sufferers, relief and ration to general public and restorating power, road connectivity and drinking water on war footing. They also demanded augmentation of emergency services at district hospital and PHCs and kind of a mobile arrangement for remote areas to bring some relief to ailing people particularly the women folk. They also demanded assessment of losses to orchards, private nurseries, houses and commercial establishments so that adequate relief is provided to needy persons.
