Govt reconstitutes JKMC

JAMMU, Oct 20: The Government today reconstituted Jammu and Kashmir Medical Council (JKMC) for regulating the practice and registration of practitioners of Medicine in the Union Territory, by issuing a formal order.
According to the Government order, the new Council will be headed by Dr Saleem ul Rehman (Director General, Family Welfare and Maternity Child Health and Immunization, J&K) while other officers of the Council included Dr Iqbal Sofi (Medical Superintendent, District Hospital, Anantnag), Dr Rajeshwar Sharma (Medical Superintendent, Chest Diseases Hospital, Government Medical College, Jammu) and Dr Chanderlekha (retired DHO Jammu) wife of Dr KK Gupta, resident of Greater Kailash, Jammu.
“These officers shall hold office till any law is enacted in this behalf and shall be eligible for re-appointment. They shall appoint a Registrar who shall also act as a Treasurer, unless they appoint any other person as a Treasurer,” the order read. As per the Order, the Council has been reconstituted in exercise of powers conferred by Section 98 of the J&K Reorganization Act 2019.
Earlier on the evening of October 18, J&K Health and Medical Education Department had tweeted: “Dussehra and Eid Milad-un-Nabi gift to the Medical Fraternity. J&K State Medical Council reconstituted. Orders being issued soon.”
