JAMMU, Oct 31: The authorities for the first time have decided to celebrate the 99th birth anniversary of martyr Sarwanand Koul Premi falling on November 2 at his native village Soaf Shali in Anatnag district of South Kashmir.
In this regard the Chief Education Officer, Anantnag has send an Advisory to Principal Higher Secondary School, Soaf Shali to organise a function in the School premises befitting the occasion by inviting the prominent people of the area including public representatives and the family members of the martyr.
The letter written by CEO Anantnag also reads that martyr Sarwanand Koul was a legendary of his era, a great scholar, a great Kashmiri poet and educationist, a social worker and the first person to translate Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta into Kashmiri script. He served in a number of education institutions of District Anantnag and retired as Headmaster. He had placed a landmark brotherhood, harmony and educational aspects in the area of Breng Kokernag.
“Owing his remarkable contribution in every field of society you are advised to organise function on November 2, 2023 at your institution in connection with 99th birth anniversary of Sarwanad Koul Premi by cordially inviting respected citizens, DDCs , BDCs, PRIs especially his family members and scholars from the Pandit community and the action taken report be shared with this office,” the letter read further.
It may be recalled that Premi along with his son Verinder Koul was kidnapped by the militants from their native village and next day on May 1 in 1990 their dead bodies were found on road side at Anantnag bearing torture marks.
This great man who throughout his life spread the message of co-existence and worked for strengthening Hindu- Muslim bonds and arranged the education of poor Muslim students of the area was not spared by the enemies of humanity.
The family sources say they are planning to observe and celebrate the birth Centenary of this legendry person, well known Gandhian and freedom fighter for entire year in a big way all over the country at places where Kashmiris are stationed.
