Govt to modernize all CA&PD godowns: Zulfkar

JAMMU, June 13: The Government is going to upgrade and modernize all godowns of the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department to further streamline the supply chain management in the State.
Speaking at a meeting here today, the Minister for Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution Zulfkar Ali said that the functioning of the department would also be fully computerized to check black-marketing and pilferage of ration.
He further said that the Government is planning to build steel silos along with railway siding to enable the State to store food grains for long periods.
The Minister stressed on switching over to GPS enabled trucks for transportation of food grains in order to keep tab on their position at any point of time. “This will help the department to effectively check pilferage of ration en-route its destination”, he added.
The Minister asked the officers to ensure timely lifting, transportation, storage and distribution of ration, besides verification of all the sale centres and stores in their respective areas. He warned the officers against negligence in the discharge of duty and said the erring officers would be dealt sternly.
Director, CA&PD Department G.S Chib, Joint Director, CA&PD Department Mansoor Aslam, Deputy Director, CA&PD Department K. Syed Khan, Assistant Directors (ADs), Tehsil Supply Officers (TSOs) and store keepers of Jammu region were present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Minister inspected various CA&PD stores of Jammu city to assess stock position and quality of the food grains available.
At new food grain store Ware House, the Minister inspected the quality and stock position of rice, wheat, Atta and sugar. The Minister directed the concerned officers/officials to maintain the stock register up to date and dispatch the ration for distribution to the consumers well in time.
The Minister also directed for expediting the computerization and digitization in the CAPD Department and asked the concerned officers to complete the process at the earliest.
Later, the Minister visited CAPD store at Chatha and assessed stock and supply position. He also inspected the weighing machines installed in the stores.
