REASI, Dec 2: As a mark of respect and tribute to the martyr, Government Middle School Thub has been dedicated to SPO Dewan Singh, who made supreme sacrifice while fighting terrorists.
Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Charandeep Singh and SSP Reasi, Shailender Singh visited remote hill top village Thub to formally dedicate the school in the name of the martyr.
On the occasion, Charandeep Singh on behalf of the administration presented gifts to family of the martyr and assured all possible assistance to the family.
Shailender Singh instituted a photograph of martyr Dewan Singh in proud J&K police uniform in the School.
SPO Dewan Singh was born to Omkar Singh and Chattu Devi in far flung village Thub of Sub Division Arnas on 25-10-1974. He got his primary education from Government Middle School Thub which is now named after him.
He voluntarily joined J&K Police during the period of peak militancy in Arnas area on 22-03-1999 and attained martyrdom while fighting against terrorists in an encounter in Jig Bagli Arnas on 25-07-1999.
Vidya Devi, wife of the martyr, also participated in the function. Family & villagers appreciated the efforts of police & administration for this initiative while remembering the martyr with wet eyes.
Speaking on the occasion and while paying tributes to the Martyr, SSP Reasi said that SPO Dewan Singh was very sincere, dedicated and popular among his colleagues. He was very courageous and brave policeman who voluntarily joined Police at the time when militancy was on peak in Arnas area and laid down his life for the security of the nation. Nation & J&K Police is indebted to the supreme sacrifice made by the martyr in the line of duty and upholding the national flag high, he added.
Mr Singh further expressed that by this initiative of the Government, youth would learn about the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs. Not only it will nurture a feeling of nationalism among the citizens but also immortalise the martyrs, who will be remembered by their names.
ACR Reasi Sanjay Badyal, SDPO Arnas Pritpal Singh, Tehsildar Thakrakote Naresh Kumar, ZEO Chinka and SHO Arnas were also present on the occasion.
