JAMMU, Aug 21: Government today invited doctors’ bodies to register a society on the pattern of J&K Police Welfare Society (JKPWS) for welfare of healthcare providers and healthcare workers for formation of ‘Healthcare Workers Fund’.
In a circular issued today, Health & Medical Education (H&ME) Department directed the representative of doctors in Kashmir as well as in Jammu to form a society on the pattern of J&K Police Welfare Society.
“I am directed…to advise you to register a society on the pattern of the J&K Police Welfare Society for welfare of healthcare providers and healthcare workers. Besides, the H&ME Department will extend all the necessary help as may be required for the aforesaid process,” reads the circular issued here by H&ME Department.
The decision to form such a fund was taken by the Government after the doctors’ bodies raised the issue saying that such a Welfare Fund System which can help the members of the doctor fraternity in the times of exigencies should be established.
President, Doctor’s Association of Kashmir (DAK), Dr Suhail Naik said the move is going to be of great help. “Once formulated, the Healthcare Workers Fund fund will be reserved for exigencies and emergencies and will assist all deserving health professionals after proper verification and socio-economic assessment,” he said.
Dr Balwinder Singh, president, Doctors’ Association Jammu (DAJ) said that this is a right decision at right time. Such a fund will be of great importance as all the healthcare workers will be covered under it, he added. He said no delay should be done to establish such a fund. “We will soon discuss the issue with our counterparts in Kashmir and register the society without any further delay,” he added.
