JAMMU, Aug 12: Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President National Conference Jammu has strongly castigated the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Administration for not showing any concern for the people having suffered huge losses during the latest spell of incessant rains across the Jammu region.
In a statement issued here today, the senior National Conference leader said that the LG Manoj Sinha led UT Administration has failed miserably to rise to the situation arising out of the weather vagary despite the fact that there has been extensive damage of properties and crops in 10 districts of Jammu region due to flash foods and torrential rains.
He said that even Jammu District has been severely affected with areas including Kalka Colony, Nanak Nagar, Roop Nagar, Bantalab, Chhani having got inundated with rain water and entering the ground floor of the houses situated in these areas.
Rattan Lal Gupta said that despite the incessant rains resulting in deaths of people the Administration seems to be in deep slumber as no relief or interim relief has been provided to the victims of weather vagary.
Expressing grief and sorrow over the death of a scholar in Samba District and also the death of a daughter and mother duo in Ramban, Rattan Lal said that roads, culverts, bridges, houses, etc have been extensively damaged so much so that road connectivity has been lost in many areas besides majority of roads lying in absolutely dilapidated condition.
Lamenting that no relief or interim relief has been provided to the affected people till date, he appealed to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to direct the District heads across Jammu to constitute special teams and depute these to assess the losses suffered by the people in every area and provide immediate succour to these affected families in this hour of crisis. He sought immediate interim relief to the affected people and adjust the same against the final relief decided by the administration for these victims. He also demanded sanctioning of ex-gratia relief to the kin of those killed due to flash floods across Jammu region.
