JAMMU, Oct 6: The Civil Society of Kishtwar has urged the Government to take immediate steps in providing all sort of help the inhabitants of Malai village in Drabshala Tehsil and people of Kontwara where the land-slides threat is looming large and people have become panicky.
The civil society which met here, today under the leadership of Shamsher Singh Bhandari a senior Congress leader said it is pity that after approaching the district administration over a year back it has failed to take the safety measures for the people of Malai who are facing the land slides and soil erosion threat.
The meeting urged the Government to take immediate steps in rehabilitation of the people of the area in safer places and provide them adequate compensation.
It accused the Government of being callous towards these hapless people who despite approaching the Government time and again have not been heard. It said the people are scared as the winter is approaching and the threat of land-slides and soil erosion can increase.
The Civil Society stressed on immediate rehabilitation of the hapless people. It also demanded starting of construction of Pakal-Dul Project in Kishtwar and other power projects in the area.
