LUCKNOW, Nov 19: Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court today gave Uttar Pradesh government six weeks time to file its reply on a Public Interest Litigation(PIL)demanding probe against misuse of funds by former Chief Minister Mayawati in construction of memorials and parks during her previous regime.   The court has fixed January 15, 2015 as the next date of hearing the matter.Interestingly, January 15 is the birthday of Ms Mayawati.

A division bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Krishana Murari gave the direction on a PIL filed by a Shiv Sena leader Bharat Nath Shukla.

Petitioner’s counsel H S Jain briefing about the PIL said that they have given the details of the CAG report and the probe conducted by the LOkayukta.

“Both the institutions have incident misappropriation of funds in the construction of memorials and parks during the previous Mayawati’s regime,” the PIL claimed.   The petition alleged that corruption was at its peak in the name of the projects and public money was ’embezzled by persons who were custodian of public money and were at the helm of the affairs,’ Mr Jain said in the PIL.
