Govt focusing on development of rural, far off areas: Slathia

SAMBA, Aug 19:  Minister for Industries and Commerce,  Surjit Singh  Slathia today laid foundation stone of treasury building at Vijaypur in District Samba  which will be constructed by PWD(R&B)  with an estimated cost of Rs 27.92 lakh.
District Development Commissioner, Samba, Mubarak Singh, District Officers and large number of people were present on the occasion.
Later, the Minister convened a public meeting at Vijaypur in which people from 13 wards were present.
The ward members projected various demands and problems of the area which were mostly related to provision of drinking water and power supply. The people also   projected the problem of dilapidated condition of lanes and drains in ward No. 3 and 4 of Vijaypur town.
The people demanded construction of play ground for the youth of Vijaypur, park near the temple, construction of boundary wall of Government Higher Secondary School, Vijaypur.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Slathia said that present Government headed by Omar Abdullah is committed to ensure enhanced basic amenities to the people especially those living in far flung and hilly areas.  He said that drinking water, road connectivity and power supply are the priority sectors for the Coalition Government. He appealed the people to completely participate in all the development works being done in their respective areas to achieve desired results on ground. He added that the Government has launched a number of schemes in all parts of the state with focus on rural and remote areas during the past over three years which speaks of the volumes of progress of the Government on development front.
Responding to demands of the people, the Minister assured that all their issues would be sorted out in a phased manner.
