JAMMU, Oct 4: Government has failed to provide quality Basmati seed to the farmers, thus creating aguish among the farmers community.
This was alleged by Choudhary Dev Raj, president, RS Pura Rice Growers Association, during a press conference, here this afternoon.
Choudhary Dev Raj said that the Basmati seed 370, which has been supplied to the farmers on full payment from the Agriculture Department Jammu shows mixture and diseased, which creates trouble for Basmati growers of RS Pura sector.
“Highly paid labourers and their hard work goes all in vain due to the negligence of concerned officers, who are always looking for pay commission without doing work with sincerity”, he alleged.
He demanded compensation at Rs 3000 per kanal with free seeds and fertilizers for current Rabi season for these farmers or else they will knock the doors of High Court for justice.
Choudhary Dev Raj also raised the issue of death of farmers during Pak firing and demanded Rs 10 lakh for casualty and compensation for their animals and free family insurance of border residents.
Tajinder Singh, president, J&K Kissan Council said that assurance given by the Chief Minister for making agriculture and allied sectors glamorous, has proved failure.
Singh said that there is immediate need of establishing bio-control laboratory in Jammu region to provide bio-fertilizers to the farmers so as to save their high input cost.
