JAMMU, July 7: Informing that establishment of Government Degree College in Majalta was on direction of Supreme Court, former Minister and JKNPP Chairman Harshdev Singh today called for start of admissions for Part-I course of graduation from the current academic session itself.
He regretted that the J&K Government, which was bound by the Supreme Court to issue the order for establishment of Degree College in Majalta before July 15, 2016 on a petition filed by Sarpanches of Tehsil Majalta in case titled Karnail Singh Sarpanch and others Vs State of J&K, had delayed the process which could eventually effect the start of academic session in the said college during the present academic session.
Reminding the State Government of the Supreme Court directions for filing the compliance report before the Apex Court on July 18, 2016 on which date the case was again listed, Harshdev Singh maintained that it was not merely a question of the issuance of establishment order of the college but the said college has got to be made functional before that date.
Harsh Dev Singh said that the Degree College Majalta was not only a necessity but a compulsion for the BJP-PDP Government as the Division Bench of the J&K High Court had also passed adverse orders against the State Government for non implementation of its order regarding opening of the College. He said that the special leave petition filed by the State Government before Supreme Court had also been disposed by the said court by directing the State to issue orders for opening of the Majalta College with further directions to the Chief Secretary to file the affidavit regarding establishment of the College by July 15, 2016 before the registry of the Supreme Court and to make it functional before July 18.
