Prime Minister Narendra Modi has blamed the previous governments since Independence for urban mess and announced that the present government was committed to make life easier for urban population. “The previous governments did not have any political commitment to solve the basic problems of the urban citizens which has now led to rapid concrete jungle without any basic facilities leading to traffic jam, water logging and other problems,” he said.
PM lays down the strong development pitch ahead of 2019 elections and projects himself as a champion for poor, besides a stake holder in the people struggle for better life.
Modi was addressing the concluding day function of third anniversary celebration of Amrut, Smart City and PM Awas (Urban) ‘Transforming Urban Landscape’ here on Saturday. Mr Modi also attacked the opposition on Chaukidar vs Bhagidar debate. “I am proud to be Bhagidar. A Bhagidar in sorrows of poor men and women. I am a Bhagidar in sorrow and pain of every farmer, every women and every brave soldier who is putting his life at stake to defend our borders,” Mr Modi said. He further said,”I am a son of a poor mother. I have suffered what poverty is. I can connect to their plight.” “Opposition has insulted the thought of ‘Bhagidari’. Pradhan Sewak needs to be a Bhagidar,” he added. PM said our slogan of sabka sath sabka vikas and spirit of team India will propel dream of New India. “Our pledge to make lives of Indians simple and comfortable has become stronger after 3 years. We will give ‘pakka makaan’ to people who are poor and homeless,” he said. “We are bound to build a system for future generations, where life is based on 5 Es: Ease of Living, Education, Employment, Economy & Entertainment,” he said while adding that by 2022 government will try to ensure that everyone has a house. “In order to meet this target the government has approved 54 lakh houses in the cities and also provided more than 1 crore houses to people in villages,” PM said. He said that now subsidy is so attached to politics of this country. “But we spoke about it. Our appeal worked. More 1.25 crore people gave away their subsidy on gas and 40 lakh people have given up their subsidy in railway travel.” he said . He also disclosed that in UP 14,000 people left their government allotted houses for the needy. “Now people are ready to pay tax for development work. They now have faith money will not be spent on ‘Bungalows’ but actual ground work in cities,” he claimed. PM said its our target to provide integrated command for work in 100 selected cities and very soon UP cities will see a transformation through our schemes. “Our Govt is committed to speed up the vision which Atal Bihari Vajpayee has seen. Mr Vajpayee had dreamt of putting Lucknow and urban centres on road to growth and modernity,” he added. Today the schemes we are running have their origin in vision seen by Atal ji.,he further added. On the occasion the PM gave away awards to banks and urban local bodies of the country for their excellent performance. (UNI)
