SRINAGAR, July 3: Government today approved the creation of 495 posts for Ladakh division to make the newly-created administrative unit fully operational.
The official spokesman Rohit Kansal told a press conference here today that the decision was taken in State Administrative Council five months after Government announced creation of the Ladakh division with its headquarters in Leh and Kargil. Click here to watch video
“The State Administrative Council, which met here today under the chairmanship of Governor Satya Pal Malik, accorded approval for the creation of 495 posts of various categories in different departments in both Leh and Kargil districts,” he said.
Kansal said the newly-created posts include 12 Directors, four Chief Engineers, four Joint Directors, Chief Conservator of Forest, Regional Wildlife Warden and other senior positions.
“These include posts of 12 Directors, 4 Chief Engineers, 4 Joint Directors, Chief Conservator of Forest, Regional Wildlife Warden and other senior positions. Over 470 more posts at different levels and belonging to a variety of departments have been created to support the Directorates and Chief Engineer Offices that will be now established in the Ladakh division”, he said. While 12 Directorates will be headquartered in Leh, an equal number of Departments will have headquarters in Kargil.
The Directorates headquartered at Leh are Chief Engineer, R&B (with additional charge of PMGSY), Chief Engineer, Mechanical, Director, Health Services, Director, Urban Local Bodies, Director, Industries & Commerce, Regional Transport Officer, Chief Conservator of Forests, Director, Animal Husbandry (with additional charge of Sheep Husbandry), Joint Director, Handicrafts (with additional charge of Handlooms), Joint Director, Hospitality and Protocol (with a Dy Director to be stationed at Kargil), Director, Accounts and Treasuries and Regional Director, State Pollution Control Board.
The Directorates headquartered at Kargil are Chief Engineer, PHE (with additional charge of I&FC), Chief Engineer, PDD, Director School Education, Director, Rural Development, Director, Social Welfare, Additional Registrar Cooperatives, Director, Tourism, Director, Horticulture (with additional charge of Floriculture), Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Joint Director, Information (with Dy. Director to be stationed at Leh), Regional Wild Life Warden and Joint Director Youth Services and Sports.
The spokesman said the Divisional Commissioner and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) would spend equal time in Leh and Kargil throughout the year and they would have offices in both the districts.
“The committee in its recommendations has emphasised that the placement of a particular office at a district is on purely administrative basis and will in no way deprive the public of any of the districts from the due services of the offices which are not based in that district”, Kansal said.
“The State Administrative Council too has directed that Directors and HoDs of Ladakh Division will conduct regular tours of both the districts in the Division”, the spokesman added.
