JAMMU, July 10: R S Chib, former minister and patron of the Forum of Recognized Colleges (FORCE) today said that Governor N N Vohra has sought report from Jammu University regarding B Ed/M Ed courses.
Mr Chib discussed the issue of B Ed/M Ed with the Governor on telephone and apprised him regarding the decision of the Jammu University enhancing the duration of the these courses from one year to 2 years. “Also the eligible percentage of marks in graduation for admission to these courses is 50 percent for general category and 45 percent for category for the JU affiliated colleges whereas duration of these courses and eligible percentage for admission in Kashmir University is one year and 45 percent for general category and 40 percent for category students respectively,” Mr Chib explained and termed this as a clear case of discrimination against the students and affiliated colleges in Jammu province.
Mr Chib further said that the permitted intake in respect of colleges in Kashmir province is between 300 to 500, whereas in Jammu province, the majority of colleges were allotted with seats, ranging from 60 to 200 for 2014-15 session. He further informed the Chancellor that the FORCE has brought all these anomalies to the notice of the JU Vice-Chancellor who said that the decision to enhance the duration, is based on the direction of Supreme Court, based on the Justice Verma Commission Report, recommended as per the guidelines of National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE) Act. However, he added, the NCTE Act is not applicable to Jammu and Kashmir State and also any decision at Government level, for a similar course should be applicable to all the universities in the State.
Mr Chib made a request to the Governor for a meeting with a delegation of the members of FORCE at the earliest in order to apprise him of the alleged discriminatory decision of JU.
The Governor assured that he would be asking the Jammu University, to send a detailed report in this issue today itself,” Mr Chib claimed and added that Governor also agreed to fix an appointment with the delegation of FORCE, if necessary.
