SRINAGAR, Oct 7: Governor N.N. Vohra and Usha Vohra, First Lady, attended “Aman Dhwani”, a melodious Choir presented by children of the “Rahat Ghar”, here at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC).
This Choir was led by Sufi singer Rene Singh and organized by the “Guild of Service”, an NGO working for the upliftment of underprivileged women and children.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah, former Chief Minister; Mohammed Abass Wani, MLA, Gulmarg; G.H. Mir, Former Minister; Asgar Hassan Samoon, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir were among the large audience present on the occasion.
The Governor complimented Dr. Girija Dhar and all her devoted associates for enabling the young girls of Rahat Ghar to be provided immaculate musical training and participating in the Choir. He lauded the organizers for presenting a mesmerizing choir and lauded the talent of the children of Rahat Ghar in presenting such a wonderful performance.
He appreciated the missionary zeal of the devoted ladies who ran the Guild of Service and for rendering yeoman service for the capacity building of the underprivileged women and children and providing sucour to the young girls. He also complimentedRene Singh for her excellent singing of Sufi songs and for training the young girls of Rahat Ghar.
The Governor observed that he would continue to support efforts of the “Guild of Service” in building peace and harmony in the society.
Dr. Abdullah, who spoke on the occasion, shared inspiring words of wisdom with the children. He called upon the children and the society at large to do nothing which would damage the cause of communal harmony and brotherhood.
Dr. Mohini Giri, President, Guild of Service, Meera Khanna, Vice- President, Guild of Service; Dr. Girija Dhar and Neerja Mattoo also spoke on the occasion and shared the history and the ongoing activities of the Guild of Service.
