Governing Council of SMVD Gurukul reviews arrangements for Shastri Course

KATRA, Dec 29:  In the 20th meeting of Governing Council for Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, Charan Paduka, Katra, held at Gurukul complex here, several important decisions were taken for the commencement of Shastri Course from mid 2017 and to develop this institution as a centre of excellence.
Dr S S Bloeria, Member of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Council for Gurukul, chaired the meeting. Prof  Yugal Kishore Mishra; Prof. Vishwamurti Shastri;  Ajeet Kumar Sahu, CEO of the Shrine Board;  Hem Kant Prasher, Chief Accounts Officer;  Pankaj Gupta, Dy. CEO of the Shrine Board and Administrator of Gurukul; and  Gopal Dass Sharma, Head Pujari, Bhawan,  participated in the meeting.
The Chairman of the Governing Council reviewed the to-date status of construction of Phase-II of the Gurukul for starting Shastri classes. He emphasized the need for ensuring the completion of various components of Gurukul Phase-II expeditiously by putting in extra efforts so that all the required infrastructure, faculty and other logistics are put in place as per envisaged timelines for commencement of Shastri course (graduation) in the Gurukul by July 2017
The meeting discussed various agenda items in detail and took several important decisions for developing the Gurukul as a centre of excellence. It was also decided that the Gurukul Phase-II will have its separate well stocked specialized library for the benefit of the faculty as well as the students pursuing Shastri course.
The Governing Council also discussed modalities for starting Chairman’s award as well as other awards and prizes for outstanding performance of the students.
Giving details about the Gurukul, the Administrator informed that 20 students are admitted to class 6th in this fully residential institution every year after conducting entrance test in January-March. The Shrine Board also organizes specially designed training sessions for the students hailing from Purana Daroor and belonging to erstwhile Baridar families to prepare them for the entrance test for admission to Gurukul. This year this coaching session is in progress from December 26 to December 31 at the Spiritual Growth Centre, Katra for the forthcoming academic session. He informed that at present 136 students, studying in 6th to 12th classes in the Gurukul, are being provided education, boarding, lodging, uniforms, books etc entirely free of cost by the Shrine Board. They are being imparted quality education in Vedas, Karamkand and Pooja rituals besides teaching to them English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Computer Sciences and Music.
