KATRA, Jan 1: The 14th meeting of the Governing Council for Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, Charan Paduka, Katra was held wherein review of working and functioning of this institution was undertaken.
Dr S S Bloeria, Member of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, who is also Chairman of the Governing Council for Gurukul, chaired the meeting. Dr M K Bhandari, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; Dr M K Kumar, Additional CEO SMVDSB; Prof Y K Mishra; Prof Vishwamurti Shastri; Neeraj Gupta, Chief Accounts Officer of the Shrine Board; Anil Sharma, Deputy CEO and Administrator of Gurukul; and Gopal Dass Shastri, Head Pujari, Bhawan; participated in the meeting.
Dr Bloeria and other members of the Governing Council expressed satisfaction at the functioning of the Gurukul, which was established by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in 2010. The CEO informed that the Gurukul has achieved the distinction of 100 percent pass percentage.
The meeting discussed in detail the to-date status of construction of Gurukul Phase-II. The meeting was informed that the work on the levelling of the ground is going on speedily and the construction work on this phase comprising hostel for students, who shall be pursuing “Shastri” course, residential accommodation for Acharyas and staff, Yagya Shalla, Temple and allied facilities would commence shortly and will be completed within 18 months. It was informed that the recent addition of four new class rooms, accommodation facilities have been added in the existing academic block.
The CEO further informed that at present 86 students are studying in the 6th to 10th classes in this fully residential Gurukul, who are being imparted education in Vedas, Sanskrit, religious scriptures, Karamkand and Pooja rituals, apart from being taught all modern subjects including Science, Mathematics and Computers.
Free education, boarding, lodging, uniforms, books etc. to the students are provided by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
The Gurukul also organizes a few refresher courses during the year to sharpen skills of Pandits/Pujaris from the region and those serving in the Shrine Board.
