After the success of her first two books-The Perennial Journey(2017) and Rooh-e-Rumi (2019)-Good to Goodness is Mamta Sehgal’s third writing project.
As per Mamta, although the subject of Good to Goodness was conceptualised long ago, it took her seven long years to finally accomplish it. Looking back and introspecting, she says, “This book is an intellectual progression from the first two. The Perennial Journey was a classical spiritual interpretation drawn from the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, while Rooh-e-Rumi was an expression of Love and God through her interpretations of the quotes of the 13th-century legendary Sufi poet, Rumi. First came the teachings, then their meaning-and now, the way to imbibe those teachings in life through goodness.”
The sole purpose of writing this book she says, is to explore the underlying objective of solving a fundamental mystery of humanity: to be good and to understand goodness.
Understanding the rudimentary role and the ensuing enigma of human goodness, and identifying the virtues that make each one of us either a good or a bad human being, Good to Goodness is a collection of her thoughts, interpretations, experiences, and beliefs that ultimately shape a good human being. The book also reflects on how a life of goodness affects society, our social behaviour, our relationships, and our existence as humans at large.
After deep rumination and deliberation, 20 virtues of goodness have been identified and thoughtfully interpreted. Quotes by learned and renowned personalities, along with short stories, instances, and references, have been included to express and demonstrate these ideas. The book is a simple yet beautiful amalgamation of the writer’s thoughts and views, intended to leave a lasting and magical impression on the reader.
Mamta proudly shares- “Exactly 10 years ago, the gem named Bhagavad Gita entered my life and changed it forever. It was destiny’s way of blessing me with knowledge and enlightening me to many realities that had been missing until then. It opened doors of realisation, bringing me into a light I had never known. Reading this divine scripture was a miraculous experience, full of surprises-the most amazing of them being the journey into writing. After receiving the priceless knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita, I began writing-first short articles, then blogs, and eventually two books. The journey has been nothing short of miraculous. Knowledge, faith, and devotion led to one thing after another-unimaginable, unplanned, yet profoundly transformative.”
Rumi once said, “What you seek is seeking you.” The very thing you are searching for is also looking for you. The idea you seek is already on its way, the moment you speak to it.
The advent of the Bhagavad Gita in her life made her a seeker in the true sense of the word. With this thirst to seek more came the profound wisdom imparted through Rumi’s writings. Introduced to this treasure by her son, she was mesmerised by the depth of Rumi’s words. The more she read, the more deeply she related to them, and the more she felt compelled to interpret them through the knowledge the Bhagavad Gita had poured into her. And now, as her journey as a seeker continues, Good to Goodness, her third book, takes birth. With accumulated knowledge, awareness, and understanding of life’s many realities, this book speaks of goodness-its traits, its virtues, and its impact on our lives. Mamta sincerely hopes and wishes it delivers what she intends, through her sincere thoughts.
