GOC, ex-Minister, Bishop Ivan call on Lt Governor

JAMMU, Feb 3: Lt. Gen. J S Nain, GOC, 9 Corps today called on the Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu here at the Raj Bhavan.
The Lt Governor and the GOC discussed several issues relating to the security management and other important issues to meet the security challenges in J&K.
The Lt Governor stressed on the high importance for maintaining close and effective synergy between the Army and other Security Forces for ensuring a secure environment for the people.
Dr. Devinder Kumar Manyal, former Minister also called on Lieutenant Governor and apprised him of various issues of public importance including land acquisition for the expansion of Industrial Growth Centre (IGC) Samba, reservation in promotion for SC/STs, establishment of PMAY Colony in Panchayat Chajjwal, pending liabilities under MGNREGA, development of Purmandal-Uttarbehni on the lines of religious tourism, establishment of MCH centre at Samba etc. He also drew the Lt Governor’s attention towards sand mining related and other developmental issues of the Samba area.
The Lt Governor assured Dr. Manyal to review the genuine issues and demands put forth by him for their early redressal and urged him to continue working towards promoting public welfare.
Rt. Rev. Bishop Ivan Pereira, Bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar also met the Lieutenant Governor.
Bishop Ivan Pereira informed the Lt Governor about various social, educational and humanitarian works undertaken by the Catholic Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar. He expressed hope that the new UT administration will fulfill the aspirations of the people of J&K and projected issue pertaining to the regularization of jobs of Safai Karamcharis. He further briefed the Lt Governor about the upcoming humanitarian programme for the care of the destitute.
The Lt Governor assured Bishop Pereira to examine the issue projected by him and urged him to continue promoting peace, communal brotherhood and public welfare through his sustained endeavours.
Sr. Hema, Principal, Presentation Convent School; Sr. Swati, Principal, Carmel Convent School and Fr. Shaiju Chacko, Director, Catholic Social Service Society were also present on the occasion.
