Goats to be imported from Switzerland for Dairy Farm: Samoon

BANDIPORA, Nov 2: Principal Secretary Animal Husbandry/Sheep, Fisheries and Transport Dr Asgar Samoon today visited Bandipora to review the functioning of the concerned departments in the district.
During the day long visit, Dr. Samoon inspected proposed Dairy and Goat Farm site at Arin, Dardpora in Bandipora.
The concerned officers informed the Principal Secretary that the estimated project cost of first phase of Dairy and Goat farm is Rs 8 crore and the project will be completed in a phased manner. He was informed that with the setting up of project, high genetic merit and high yielding goats will be added to the livestock.
Dr. Samoon said that goats will be imported from Switzerland for the Dairy Farm. He highlighted the need of high yielding goats for fulfilling the vision of the department in doubling the farmers income. He said that two high yielding cows and 10 high genetic merit sheep would be given to beneficiaries selected by district level committee.
During the visit Dr. Samoon distributed free Veternary Medicine kits among 33 farmers and free blankets among 34 farmers.
He also visited Trout Hatchery Shokbaba and inaugurated Trout raceways besides taking stock of facilities available.
On the occasion, he asked the concerned officers to expedite the process of setting up of required infrastructure and facilities to improve livestock in the district. He also reviewed the livestock infrastructure facilities in the area besides progress of different schemes for the benefit of farmers.
Dr. Samoon directed the officers to stock essential medicines, surgery equipment besides ensuring availability of veterinarians and stressed for organizing awareness camps for farmer.
