GNC Gandhi Nagar organizes lamp lighting ceremony for students

JAMMU, Sept 26: A lamp lighting ceremony was organized in Government Nursing College (GNC), Gandhi Nagar (Jammu) for the students of BSc Nursing course.
The ceremony was a maiden lamp lighting ceremony since the establishment of Government Nursing College, a first of its kind in Jammu region under the aegis of Higher Education Department, J&K Government.
Dr Sandeep Singh Registrar, J&K Paramedical and Nursing Council, was the chief guest on the occasion. In his speech, Dr Sandeep focussed on the importance and need of Nursing professionals in day today’s scenario of COVID-19. He also emphasized on establishment of more nursing colleges in J&K in order to make health care system more robust and tender to the needs of the society.
Earlier, Prof Indra Moza, Principal, GNC Gandhi Nagar, administered the oath to the Nursing students and lit their lamps as a mark of respect to Florence Nightingale who is considered as the pioneer of modern nursing and is popularly known as “Lady with the Lamp”.
Dr Sangita Nagari, Principal PG Government Women’s College Gandhi Nagar (Jammu) in her address advised the nursing students to follow the footsteps of Florence Nightingale that Nurse should be honest in character, sound in mind and quick in observation. She also laid emphasis on the importance of nursing services during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Dr A S Bhatia, HoD Biochemistry, Dr Rajinder K Sharma, Convener, Government Nursing College and Joint Controller, Cluster University and Rajesh Sharma, Assistant Director, Youth Affairs JKSACS and Nursing teaching and non-teaching faculty.
The function was ornamented with various activities performed by the students. The function concluded with vote of thanks presented by Poonam Paul, Assistant Professor, GNC Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
