Shopkeeper held, 5,400 banned injections seized

MENDHAR, Sept 26: Police today arrested a shopkeeper and seized 5,400 injections of banned oxytocin in Mendhar sub division of Poonch district.
Official sources said that the police believed that Oxytocin was being misused by drug addicts. It said Oxytocin is a hormone and a neuro-transmitter that is involved in childbirth and breast-feeding. It is also used among animals (buffaloes and indigenous varieties of cows) to smoothen muscle cells of their mammary glands to induce milk let-down.
For the last many year, this injection has restricted supply after the Union Health Ministry imposed a ban on the retail sale and private manufacturing of Oxytocin. The retail sale of this injection was banned for the reason of its misuse on cattle to increase milk production.
Police received information that a Karyana shopkeeper was illegally selling Oxytocin banned injections in the market. On the basis of the information, the police party Led by Sub Inspector Sham Lal under the Supervision of SDPO Mendhar Zaheer Abbas Jaffari, raided the Karyana shop and recovered 5,400 banned injections and arrested trader.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammad Shafiq, son of Karamat Hussain, a resident of Galuta village of Mendhar. A case has been registered against him in Mendhar Police Station under FIR No 338/2021.
