JAMMU, Oct 15: Department of Pediatrics, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu in collaboration with “CANKIDS”—an NGO working for Pediatric Cancer patients, celebrated Global Handwashing Day and also spread awareness amongst the patients and their attendants regarding the effective role of Hand Hygiene in preventing the diseases.
On this day, the Department of Pediatrics with the motive to encourage the habit of regular Handwashing, organized a Painting Competition in which the children suffering with cancer disease, admitted in SMGS Hospital, Jammu participated and draw paintings.
Principal, GMC Jammu, Professor (Dr) Nasib Chand Digra and Head of Pediatrics Department, Professor Dr Ghanshyam Saini and Administrator, Associated Hospitals, Jammu, Nagendra Singh Jamwal, also distributed prizes and gifts amongst the children.
On the occasion, Principal GMC Jammu said that Global Handwashing Day is an annual global advocacy day dedicated to advocating for handwashing with soap as an easy, effective and affordable way to prevent diseases. Further, he along with Professor Dr Ghanshyam Saini explained and advised the patients and their attendants regarding benefits of regular Handwashing in preventing the diseases, especially with respect to the spread of Covid-19 virus.
Professor Dr Sanjeev Kumar Digra (Consultant I/c Pediatrics Cancer Ward) and Dr Ravi Kumar Parihar, Assistant Professor explained the techniques of Handwashing to the patients and their attendants for optimal Hand Hygiene.
Besides, other faculty members of Department of Pediatrics, Professor Dr Ashu Jamwal, Professor Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma, Associate Professor Dr Mohd Razaq, Associate Professor Dr Anuj Bhatti, Assistant Professor Dr Koushal Kumar Khajuria and Deputy Medical Superintendent, SMGS Hospital, Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma were also present on the occasion.
